The Batmobile

These really aren't customs at all, but rather model kits. To be more precise, they're the Johnny Lightning model kits of the 1950s and 1960s comic-style Batmobiles. When I was younger, my father built fleets of model cars, but though I sometimes tried, I never really had the patience to pay attention to all the tiny details involved, so my cars never turned out so great. Now, however, many years later, I've done a bit better, I think. Both these Batmobiles are 1:24 scale.

1950s Batmobile

First up is the 1950s Batmobile, one of my favorites. Don't ask me why, but I love that huge fin on the back, not to mention the rounded, jelly-bean styling of the whole car. One of the most frustrating things about this model, I was to discover, is that the little laboratory in the backseat area, which I'd spent hours painstakingly painting, is all but unseen when the model is assembled. Ah well, I know the tiny yellow pencil is there on the desk, and that the drawerpulls are a nice brass color.

1960s Batmobile

Next is the 1960s Batmobile, rather similar to the one used in the TV series, but with notable differences (no red piping, for example). This one was also fun to build, and with the open cockpit, none of the interior details are really lost. Of course, there's also no laboratory in this model.

Once I have some good photos, I'll show off my 1:64 scale Batmobile models!
